Bio
David Austin started his life on 3 September 1949 in Waterlooville, a small village in Hampshire.
His family were all quite musical. His Father was a Jazz guitarist, elder brother a bass player and younger brother another guitarist.
In 1967 he joined the RAF as a communications specialist. He was posted to Mönchengladbach in West Germany from 1970 to 1972, and upon successful completion of his 5 year contract he was demobbed in 1972.
He then embarked upon a career working in various Communication Centres for many city banks. In the 1990s he started working for an Italian bank and was asked by the manager to help collate large corporate legal documents. After, a period working as a Legal Assistant he then embarked upon a career as a Legal Practice Manager for city law firms.
In 2007 whilst he was working as a Claims Development Manager for Barlow Robbins LLP he was experiencing problems with his hearing and upon examination at a local hospital he was informed that he had developed tumours (Cholesteatomas) in both ears, and subsequently had to undergo long operations to laser out both tumours.
The hearing loss effectively brought to an end his working life running Law firms in offices because his hearing simply was not good enough.
Around 2000, he then started to develop a legal forensic thriller called “SUPER FISCAL”, which has been compared to a John Grisham type legal thriller. He is in the process of re-writing this book with a view to obtain agent interest.
He has also written a science fiction thriller called “THE CATCH!”, which is published on his Kindle (KDP) account from June 2023..
In addition, he has written a cycling travelogue diary (“Cycling Heaven & Hell!”) which details his cycling adventures across; France, UK, Israel, South Africa, Cuba, Spain, India, Jersey, Guernsey.
Whilst staying in Kyoto, Japan from 1st May – 1st July 2016 he wrote a diary about his experiences. The main reason that he travelled there was to look after his Japanese girlfriend Michiko Kikufuji, who was very ill and unfortunately she sadly passed away whilst he was out there. His diary is called “MY NINJA GIRL” based on a song he wrote for Michiko.
David is also a guitarist and songwriter. He developed his playing style and technique by playing at many ‘Open Mics’, in London and Brighton. In September 2019 whilst he was cycling through Spain trying to raise money for Lymphoma charities, he was invited to be interviewed and perform two of his own songs on LIVE TV on the “HUB” show at The Gibraltar Broadcasting Corporation. He performed on the “The Hub” show. Videos are on his music website here.
He is a keen cyclist and still cycles around 70 miles a week from his South London flat to Richmond Park three times a week. He swims every Sunday and still also practises Tai Chi which he started in 1979.
